For question #2, please outline in detail how your new post addressed the three main objectives as discussed in class. Please outline in detail for each. (9 Marks)
Based on what was discussed in class, the revised post above addresses three main objectives that were discussed in class. As mentioned previously, the three main objectives in plain language are that users can find what they need, they can Understand it, and use it to fulfill their purpose. Clarity and readability are a big factors in the three main objectives which are shown in my post throughout.
One aspect of this post that addresses these main objectives is that it is Structured and organized. How the post is structured is as follows: 1. Who is FreshFarmerYQG, 2. What We Do, 3. Why Pick Us, 4. High Quality Standards, 5. We sell Local Farmer products, and 6. Contact us. As discussed in class, this was done on purpose in consideration of digital users’ impatience. They can easily find what they’re looking for in my post because it is organized. For instance, if they seek out contact information, they find all relevant information in the content section of my post. All the writing is relevant to the header above it so it ensures that users won’t be confused. For example, you won’t find contact information in the Why Us section of my post. Moreover, I made the Contact Us page the last one. If I had made it the first section in my post, it would immediately turn away users from my page. As such, as they further read my post, the context and requirements are known. Therefore, when they eventually reach the Contact Us section of my post, it won’t catch them off guard and potentially enact action if they find themselves resonating with my post.
Secondly, I made sure that grammar errors were close to zero in my post. As discussed in class, having grammar in your writing can break the immersion of users reading your content. As such, proofread my post several times to limit grammar mistakes as much as possible. By having good grammar in my post, it allows for users to more easily understand my content and they will be more engaged with my content as with limited grammar mistakes will have them locked and focused.
Thirdly, as with plain language writing, I made sure that I maintained a more Positive attitude throughout the post. This is especially vital for my business because of the sensitive matter my post revolves around. In this case, the affordability of groceries and overall financial situation. Using my post, I want users to engage and take action with my business and establish a connection with the business. By utilizing a more positive attitude it will uplift my readers to take action and limit any hesitancy. Writing in a more positive tone can influence more readers to associate with your brand according to genxmarketing.com. I attempted to do this in a few areas in my post. For example, I have written in my post, “ Allow us to take a weight off your shoulders by shopping with us so that you can spend more on other necessities.” By writing this, it should bring awareness that my business accepts them and establishes a connection with them.
Fourthly, I made sure that my post didn’t waste the user’s time. As discussed in class, users have limited attention spans and will leave your content once they feel the content is invaluable or they can’t find what they’re looking for fast. As such, I limited the amount of sentences I have in my paragraphs between 2-4 sentences. This is more effective than writing my content in long paragraphs beyond 5 sentences as users quickly reading my content won’t fully read these long paragraphs. These short sentences are more valuable because they enhance clarity and readability. For example, I wrote in my post, “We are Windsor, Ontario’s newest grocery store which aims to deliver the same produce that you find in big brand names at a more affordable price.” Users reading this can immediately identify what my business is in a short amount of time.
Filthily, with the three objectives in mind, I have used a couple of images to further better the clarity and readability of my post. I used a total of two images in my post. The first image displays a discouraged family. This is used because it relates to my target audience who feel overwhelmed by food prices. Instead of using words to describe my audience, I used a picture so that they could more easily see who I was writing more effectively and quickly. The second image that I used is a Google Maps image of my company location. As users see this, they can get a visual representation of my company’s location. With all this in mind, these two images convey my audience and location way better than words; making understanding my post more easy.
Next, to further enhance the readability of my post, I made clear different ideas and separated of content using headers and bullet points. One of the objectives in Plain English writing is the ability to find what they’re looking for. The headers in my post, such as, Why FreshFarmerYQG and Who is FreshFarmerYQG indicate the content of the sentences below. Moreover, I used several bullet points in my post to quickly communicate and convey my message. As stated in class, users have limited time, so they don’t have the time to read long informational paragraphs. I have purposely considered the information in bullet points to make it more digestible to the reader.
Finally, the post itself is written and structured in the F-Pattern. As discussed in class, users quickly scan content in an F-like Shape. Knowing this, I have ensured that when users scan my content, can still understand the messages in conveying. This is shown in my post through the use of bullet points, Images, and headings. By writing my post in the F-Pattern, it makes it easier for users to understand and find what they’re looking for. This benefits my post because, as per class discussions, users like to feel like their time is appreciated. Therefore, Walls of text are not effective. I could have written my post using walls of text, and limited bullet points, but it wouldn’t be viable to do so because no one will read it and understand it. F-Pattern makes my post more understandable and they can use it for their purposes because they can easily find the content they are looking for since my post is easily scannable.
