As per the headline in Question #2, was the headline representative of the article? Please explain your reasoning in detail. (4 Marks)
The headline in Question #2, “Three Charged After Man Found in Ditch Beaten And Unconscious.” I found it to be representative of the article for several reasons.
For starters, when the headline refers to “Three Charged” it wasn’t just for clicks, but representative of the actual news in the article. Due to confidentiality reasons, the names of the assaulters can’t be named but the article did provide information on them which proves that the Three people were actually charged. In the article, it describes the assaulters as:

Due to confidentiality reasons, the names of the assaulters can’t be named but the article did provide information on them which proves that the Three people were actually charged. In the article, it describes the assaulters as:
- “A 46-year-old man is charged with kidnapping and forcible confinement.”
- “A 60-year-old man is charged with break and enter and commit aggravated assault.”
- “A 23-year-old woman is charged with break and enter and commit aggravated assault, kidnapping, and forcible confinement.”
Secondly, another reason why I found the article to be effective was about the word choice in the article, “beaten” and “unconscious” are true in the article. Those two words were key factors as to why I clicked on the headline and I was glad to see them fully explained in the article and not just used for attention. The article, states the condition of the person found in that condition and the reason being, the “ victim had been assaulted with a blunt weapon”
Finally, the article goes into detail about the ‘ditch” in the headline. As discussed in class, word count is crucial for headlines because having too many words in a headline will overwhelm. Found in the article, “the ditch refers to a nearby ditch around “600 block of E.C. Row Avenue West.” Obviously, the author isn’t going to put the whole street in the title as it is too long which would have users turned off on the article. Still, the “ditch” is still relevant to the article because it states that in the article that the body was found in a ditch.
